When Wednesday nights game between the Horned Frogs (6-23, 2-13) and the Utah Utes (12-14, 5-10) was just about to get underway, everything looked familiar, except for one senior from nearby Grapevine who was about to make his first collegiate start.With just 1:34 gone by in the first half, senior David Markley spotted up on the left arc and nailed a three pointer, making him 1-1 on the night as the Frogs beat the Utes 69-65.

Markley’s three-pointer Wednesday night was the only of his career and it could not have happened on any better occasion – last night’s senior night game.

Senior Chudi Chinweze led the Frogs with 16 points on 8-14 shooting despite missing extended time in the second half due to foul trouble.

The Utes had trouble taking care of the basketball last night as they committed 17 turnovers, which the Frogs translated into 21 points.

The Frogs, on the other hand, only coughed up the rock a mere 10 times last night-six less than there season average of 16 per contest.

Sophomore Johnnie Bryant led the Utes with 19 points, but was held to only 3 points in the final 13:33.

Last night’s win snaps a nine-game losing streak and was the Frogs first win since Jan. 21 against Colorado State.

“We’ve been playing good basketball, but we haven’t had a chance to win,” head coach Neil Dougherty said. “Hopefully we can build off this in our next game at UNLV.”

The only shot that the Frogs have of making the NCAA tournament is to win the Mountain West Conference tournament, which would give the Frogs an automatic bid.

“It would be nice to win four in a row and screw everyone’s brackets up,” Dougherty said.

The Frogs next game is at UNLV at 2 p.m., and will conclude the regular season.
