The soccer team remained undefeated and with no goals against after a 3-0 win over the Xavier Musketeers.
Another two goal performance from freshman Jordan Calhoun lifted the Frogs to their second victory in as many games. Calhoun’s first goal came unassisted in the 17th minute beginning the Frog’s scoring. She netted her second goal with two seconds remaining in the half off a hard return header into the box from freshman Alex Mechalske. A swift chip into the bottom left corner put the Frogs up 2-0 going into the half.
“I’m on cloud nine right now,” said Calhoun about her transition to colligate soccer. “It’s awesome.”
The third goal was scored by sophomore Jackie Torda in the ninth minute of the second half. Redshirt freshmen Katie Taylor tallied the assist off a restart kick from just inside midfield. Torda deflected the pass into the goal to put the Frogs up 3-0.
Despite the outcome, Xavier came out playing a very physical game, which included strong play from their junior goalkeeper Kelly Farrell. Farrell was forced to stop 3 great Frog runs within the first ten minutes of the game.
“We stayed relaxed and composed on the ball,” said junior Lizzy Karoly when asked about Xavier’s physical start.
“We didn’t know a lot about them,” said head coach Dan Abdalla. “We knew they would be excited because their coach is from down in this area, but we handled their energy coming out.”
The Frogs saw more success in the return of Michelle Nguyen to the lineup. The junior was sidelined in the first game due to injury, and did not start in Friday night’s game. She came in during the middle of the first half and found her stride taking free kicks and corner kicks.
“My teammates helped me out a lot showing to the ball and helping me out a lot,” said Nguyen. “It was easy for me to get back in.”
The Frogs look to extend their unbeaten streak Sunday at 1 p.m. at home against the Rebels of Ole Miss.
