Head football coach Gary Patterson has been awarded yet another coaching accolade: Patterson was named American Football Monthly’s 2010 Coach of the Year after a 13-0 season and 21-19 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.
In 2009 Patterson was named the 2009 AP Coach of the Year, one of nine “National Coach of the Year” awards in 2009 after a perfect regular season and Fiesta Bowl appearance, losing tp Boise State, 17-10.
The Frogs have led the nation in overall defense a record five times, all under Patterson, including three-straight No.1 overall defensive rankings from 2009-11. Patterson is 12 shy of passing Dutch Meyer (109 wins) for the most wins in TCU history. Patterson’s 98-28 record and ,778 winning percentage is second among active coaches with at least five years head coaching experience Patterson is 98-28 in 10 years as TCU’s head coach. His .778 winning percentage is second among active coaches with a minimum of five years experience.
With 98 victories, Patterson is 12 shy of surpassing Dutch Meyer (109) for the most wins in TCU history. Meyer coached TCU to its 1935 and 1938 national championships. Pending TCU’s final season in the Mountain West Conference, Patterson could lead the Frogs into the Big East Conference in 2012 as the winningest football coach in TCU history.
