A group of Texas lawmakers sent a letter to University of Texas officials this week with one simple message: stay in the Big 12.
They also suggest TCU and the Big East should join.
The addition of TCU would restore the nostalgia of the old Southwest Conference should the Big 12 merge with the Big East, according to the letter.
13 Texas state representatives and Texas Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) signed the letter addressed to the UT Board of Regents, President William Powers and Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds.
UT has been flirting with the idea of joining the Pac-12.
TCU is set to join the Big East next season. A Big 12-Big East merger would create a 14-team conference. The letter mentions the possibility of attracting two more schools to start a 16-team super conference.
