The dream of returning to the Southwest Preparatory Conference II championship for Fort Worth Country Day was shattered by the 42-7 loss to All Saints Episcopal School last Friday.
“It was a total collapse,” head coach Frank Gendusa said. “There wasn’t a real aspect of the game we played well.”
After weeks of progress, the defense fell out of sync while the offense struggled throughout the game, allowing several turnovers.
“Turnovers in a game will lose us football games,” he said. “You can’t turn the football over as many times as we did and expect to win. It just doesn’t happen.”
The team has to learn from the experience and avoid making the same mistakes twice, Gendusa said.
For the last game of the season, Country Day will host Trinity Valley (6-3) for “The Battle of Bryant Irvin.” The rivalry earned its title because both schools are right up the street from each other.
The Trojans are coming off a 51-6 division win against St. Andrews Episcopal. Gendusa said Trinity Valley has been a very competitive team over the last few years and views this week’s opponent as a formidable team.
“It’s the last game of the season and we’re playing for pride against our rival,” Gendusa said. “I don’t think a whole lot of motivation needs to go into it, other than you’re playing your rival school and it’s time to bring your ‘A’ game.”
The Falcons take on the Trojans on Friday, Oct. 28, at Rosacker Field.
