USA Baseball named TCU head coach Jim Schlossnagle the manager of the 2013 Collegiate National Team on Thursday.
This will be Scholssnagle’s managerial debut for Team USA, but it’s not his first time on staff for Team USA. He was the pitching coach in 2006.
Schlossnagle said his work in 2006 was a life event he will not forget, and he is thankful to have been named head coach.
“I am truly humbled and honored to have the privilege of leading the 2013 Collegiate National Team," Schlossnagle said in a press release. "To get the opportunity to wear the USA uniform again is something that I am very thankful for."
As the pitching coach, Schlossnagle worked with current Tampa Bay Rays star David Price along with Jake Arrieta, Ross Detwiler, Sean Doolittle and Tommy Hunter. All of those pitchers have spent time in the major leagues.
The 2006 squad posted a 28-2 record. The pitching staff had a 1.24 ERA with 341 strikeouts and 98 walks in 275 innings.
Schlossnagle led TCU to a 40-22 record and a super regional appearance last season.
The schedule for the 2013 Collegiate National Team is not finalized. A completed schedule and finalized coaching staff will be posted on USABaseball.com before the end of the year.
