The Fort Worth Independent School District’s Board of Education will consider approving a budget amendment for the 2012-13 school year at its meeting tonight.
The board is also slated to hear presentations about artificial turf fields at Arlington Heights and Paschal high schools.
The meeting takes place three days after a special meeting on Saturday. Two speakers –Chief Academic Officer Mike Sorum and Holly Kaptain – presented for almost five and a half hours about the District’s education curriculum.
Kaptain presented a Curricuulm Management Improvement Model overview (CMIM) in response to the curriculum audit for Fort Worth ISD. She pointed out what needed improvement in the education system in Fort Worth and recommended that curriculum in schools must focus on specificity and reinforce complex learning for mastery of all grade levels.
Kaptain presented 11 recommendations, which Sorum’s presentation reviewed. The 11 recommendations included improving classroom performance, revising School Board policies, redesigning Fort Worth ISD’s organizational charts and job descriptions, planning to integrate technology in classrooms, refining facilities for higher quality learning environments, implementing a comprehensive and curriculum-driven program, and providing teachers constructive criticism to improve classroom performance.
While the topics discussed at Saturday’s meeting did not appear directly on Tuesday’s agenda, there are other topics that are relative to the state of classroom performance, specifically the recommended budget amendment.
Some items on the tentative agenda listed on Fort Worth ISD’s website include:
The settlement of Samson Korzeniowski v. Fort Worth ISD,
The appointing of assistant principals,
Maintenance renewal for Tyler Technologies Munis Software,
Computerized bus scheduling and routine maintenance,
Upgrade of the District’s firewall system, and
Approval for 4-H as an extracurricular activity
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Worth ISD Board Complex. For more information about tonight’s meeting, visit fwisd.org.
