Student Body Vice President of Operations Joshua Simpson unveiled plans and designs for an on-campus student memorial at the Student Government Association Meeting on Tuesday.
The student memorial will be built in honor and remembrance of university students who have died, Simpson said.
The current planned location of the memorial is at the intersection of the crosswalks near Reed and Jarvis Halls.
“It has been one of the most historical places on campus,” said Simpson.
A single lily pad sculpture, similar in design to the lotus leaf sculptures of Frog Fountain, will be at the center of the memorial, Simpson said.
The rest of the memorial will consist of flower beds, benches and a plaque, Simpson said.
According to the presentation Simpson gave, SGA allocated approximately $22,500 specifically for the memorial. The remainder of the costs will be covered by some of the $100,000 of SGA funds that weren’t used for the Blake Shelton concert.
The Physical Plant's estimate of the memorial’s total cost is $57,000, Simpson said.
The designs and location of the memorial have been approved by the Capital Projects and Planning Committee. SGA is waiting on final approval from Chancellor Victor Boschini.
In other business, the House voted unanimously in favor of a resolution that could bring two pianos to Milton Daniel and Clark Residence Halls.
The bill, introduced by Class of 2016 representatives Garrett Adair and Reid Waller, supports more research into the possibility of acquiring pianos for those two freshman residence halls.
Also, Student Body Treasurer David Belpedio said the allocation process for student organization funding is complete.
A record number of organizations applied for SGA funds, Belpedio said.
In addition, Elections and Regulations Committee Chair Jansen Harrison said that the constitutional revision process will begin this Monday. SGA suspended its constitution back in April.
TCU360 will have more coverage on the student allocation funds.
