Art History majors noticed a lack of community within their major and took measures to fix this by creating a club. 

The Art History Society is a student-led organization that was established this semester. 

According to AHS treasurer Leka Ulupano, a junior vocal performance and art history double major,  the goal of the club is to bring together TCU students who have a deep love and appreciation for art. 

 Being an art history major is not a requirement to becoming a member, Ulupano said. There are a few members who are not taking any art classes, but joined the society simply because they love art, he said. 

AHS has provided a way for art students to come together outside of the classroom. 

“In Art History classes, we sit in a dark room and look at slides the entire time. It’s not the best place to meet people,” Hannah Ziesmann, a sophomore art history major and AHS member, said. 

Ziesmann said that because of AHS, she now feels more connected with the people in her classes.

According to AHS president Taylor Qualls, a junior art history major, the members take trips to Fort Worth museums and gallery openings. 

 “We also do activities like Painting With A Twist, which is an art class in Arlington," Qualls said. "Basically anything that relates to art and gets people to know each other."  

Qualls said that the members are planning a trip to Chicago during Spring Break. The trip will allow members to visit the bigger art museums in the Chicago area. There is no confirmation on dates or accommodations yet.  

Ulupano said that he hopes the organization will increase in size and become well-known throughout campus, as well as at local museums.

Members of AHS hold meetings during the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Moudy South. There is no membership fee.
