The TCU football team beat West Virginia 39-38 during double overtime in front of 52,322 at Milan Puskar Stadium Saturday. This win makes the Horned Frogs bowl eligible. Trevone Boykin threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns. Geno Smith had 260 yards and three touchdowns and wide receiver Tavon Austin had 101 yards on 11 receptions and one touchdown.

Here are some highlights from the game:

Josh Boyce’s touchdown prompts overtime
Boykin’s pass to Josh Boyce created a 94-yard touchdown to make the score 31-30. After Jaden Oberkrom’s kick, the Mountaineers and Horned Frogs found themselves heading into overtime. In second overtime, Boykin threw to Boyce for the game-winning two-point conversion.

TCU special teams strike in second half
The Frogs’ defense forced a punt after holding the Mountaineers on third-and-2. Punter Tyler Bitancurt had trouble handling the snap and as he tried to pick it up Cliff Murphy knocked it out Bitancurt’s hands. Dominic Merka scooped up the ball and ran 15 yards for the score. This cut the Mountaineers lead to 24-21 with 9:42 left in the third quarter. Jaden Oberkrom hit a 26-yard field goal with 12:01 left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 24.

Turnovers create points for both sides
Both TCU and West Virginia forced two turnovers that resulted in points. The Mountaineers added a goal-line interception in the third quarter, but the Frogs’ defense forced a three-and-out following the interception. Cornerback Jason Verrett intercepted Geno Smith with 12:01 left in the second quarter to set up a 33-yard touchdown pass from Boykin to Josh Boyce. The Frogs also scored on special teams when Bitancurt couldn’t handle the snap. West Virginia recovered a botched punt return by Skye Dawson at the Frogs’ nine-yard line. Shawne Alston punched the ball in from one yard out to give the Mountaineers a 21-14 halftime lead. Matthew Tucker opened the second half with a fumble at the TCU 46-yard line. The Mountaineers converted the fumble into a Bitancurt field goal to go up 24-21 with 12:14 left in the third quarter.  

Boyce leads receivers
Josh Boyce had 180 yards and two touchdowns on the night. He caught two third down passes on the Frogs’ first scoring drive, including a 15-yarder on third-and-11. Brandon Carter, who sat out the Oklahoma State game, caught two passes equaling for 25 yards.
