The TCU women’s soccer team’s inaugural Big 12 season came to a close after losing 4-1 in the conference championship match to Baylor University Sunday afternoon.

The Baylor Bears came out aggressive in the first period, as they were able to get off 12 shots. Most were off target but one shot fired by Selby Polly made its way past Frog goalkeeper Vittoria Arnold, making the score 1-0.

The Horned Frogs were able to hold up their defensive strategy until halftime. In the second period the Bears’ offensive was just as consistent as it was in the first.

After firing two consecutive shots at Arnold, the Bears hit their mark as Hanna Gilmore took advantage of a blocked shot that was passed to her by Dana Larsen. The goal expanded the Baylor lead to 2-0.

TCU regained their composure and were able to go on the offensive attack. Their efforts paid off when the team’s lone senior was able to feed a ball to forward Lyndsy Schafer, who was able to head the ball into the net for a TCU goal.

The Horned Frogs’ momentum did not carry them for long as the Bears were able to strike back within five minutes and scoring again after that 22 seconds later, making the score 4-1.

TCU had four all-tournament team players in Arnold, Kelly Johnson, Bobbi Clemmer, and lone senior Monica Alvarado. Arnold was also noted as the Defensive Player of the tournament.

Head coach Eric Bell said he was proud of the team’s efforts to get to the championship game in its first season in the Big 12. 

"We were beat up and these guys played their butts off for 90 minutes and did everything they could to get a result.”

Unfortunately, the Bears were too much for the Frogs today, he said.  Bell said he tips his hat to Baylor for a job well done this season.

TCU ends its first season under Bell with a 7-10-4 record. In its inaugural Big 12 season the Frogs went to their first ever title game appearance in conference play.  Bell said the Frogs will be back and they will bring home the Big 12 title.
