The TCU women’s basketball team started out on a 15-3 run on its way to a 40-26 halftime lead against the University of Texas at San Antonio.
UTSA closed the lead to 17-11 after a 13-4 run led by senior guard Simone Young, who scored 11 points in that run and 18 of the team’s first 21 points overall.
She finished the first half with 20 points, a career-high.
Young got a rest at the 7-minute mark of the first half and the Roadrunners put TCU in the bonus, which gave TCU a chance to regroup.
The Frogs took advantage, and extended the lead back to 33-22.
TCU put up a full-court press early in the first half and set up a tight man-to-man defense in the half court, which led to a pair of early turnovers and subsequent baskets.
The Frogs extended their defense on screens to prevent UTSA pick-and-rolls, which led to significant miscommunication between Roadrunner guards and posts.
Sophomore center Ashley Colbert scored a team-high 11 points in the first half for TCU.
