The Institute of International Education (IIE) has recognized TCU study abroad’s Discovering Global Citizenship program for its innovation.
The program was one of 10 initiatives nationwide to be honored this year with the institute’s Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education.
TCU was chosen out of the more than 1,400 higher education institutions that belong to the IIE, according to the IIE website. Five campuses received the award, and eight received honorable mentions.

“Students, faculty and staff who contribute to internationalizing the campus should be proud because their work made this happen,” said Dr. Jane Kucko, TCU study abroad director.
Kucko said other campuses can look at TCU’s program and learn from it.
“The award is a testament to the high quality of collaborative work at TCU to instill internationalization into our campus,” Kucko said. She added it is very prestigious and shows that TCU understands how important it is to be part of the global community.
The IIE recognized Discovering Global Citizenship for internationalizing TCU’s campus by bringing global opportunities to both students and faculty.

The program’s initiatives are “incorporating technology for overseas communication with foreign students, developing international projects and partnerships, bringing in guest speakers and fostering research collaboration with visiting scholars,” according to the IIE website.
The mission statement of Discovering Global Citizenship is “to engage TCU with the world by providing international and comparative experiences for students.”
Study abroad coordinator Jessica Severson said TCU is dedicated to fulfilling that mission.
“We are excited to be part of the innovative programs the university is implementing,” Severson said.
