Volleyball sweeps conference opponent

With homecoming festivities taking place Friday night, crowds were flowing into the University Recreation Center to watch the volleyball team sweep Air Force, 3-0, and extend its winning streak to five matches. The victory brings the squad’s record to 15-2 on the season and pulls its Mountain West Conference record to 2-1. The sweep (30-15, 30-15, 30-12) came against a 7-9 Air Force team that did not prove to be much of a problem for the Horned Frogs. The match itself took less than 90 minutes to complete.

Prominence at the net was key for the Horned Frogs against Air Force as the blocking game was exceptional ? evident by the 12 total assisted blocks during the match.

Junior Devon Kirk pitched in on three blocks, while tallying six and a half points on the evening. Calli Corley continued her display as one of the best defensive players in TCU history, while continuing to chip away at the all-time digs record. The senior from Abilene recorded another 14 digs Friday.

Only the second game of the match had the Horned Frogs facing any remote threat. The game was tied 9-9 before the team went on a 10-1 tear on the shoulders on sophomore Lauren Otto. Otto capitalized on most of her opportunities during the match with powerful blasts to the hardwood. The Arlington native finished the evening with 11 kills.
