Editor’s Note: The Daily Skiff was not allowed to interview student athletes after the game. The volleyball team lost its seventh match of the season and second consecutive home match Friday night, falling to the UNLV Rebels in three games, 19-30, 29-31, 18-30.

Head coach Prentice Lewis said the Horned Frogs play throughout the match was not that of a winning team.

“To be honest, we didn’t play well in any of the games tonight,” Lewis said. “I am very disappointed in their play tonight, and they are all very disappointed in their play tonight. They did not come ready to play tonight, and I have no idea why, but they didn’t.”

The Horned Frogs looked more competitive in game two than in games one and three. The team was able to raise its kill total from 15 to 21 with the majority of them coming from four players. Senior middle blocker LeMeita Smith topped the list with five kills on the way to a team-high 11 while junior outside hitter Devon Kirk and freshman outside hitter Irene Hester both notched four in the game. Freshman middle blocker Christy Hudson added three kills of her own.

The Horned Frogs were also able to lower the Rebel attack percentage from 89 percent in game one to 60 percent in game two. The Rebels also committed six attack errors in the second game compared to two in the first and third games. Game two saw 13 tie scores, but the team could not capitalize on the opportunity as senior Rebel outside hitter Maria Aladjova angled the ball into the court for a 31-29 victory.

Games one and three went easily to the Rebels. There were two tie scores and one lead change in game one, and game three didn’t see any ties or lead changes.

Hester recorded her first double-double as a Horned Frog with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Lewis said the team needs to play better together to win Saturday’s home match against the San Diego State Aztecs.

“We have to come and play as a team,” Lewis said. “If everybody comes to play as a team, we’ll be fine.
