The university is stepping up its contribution to creating a sustainable environment.

Chancellor Victor Boschini is one of more than 500 university or college presidents to date to agree to the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, according to the commitment’s Web site. The main goal of the pledge is to promote sustainable practices among students, something Boschini said he feels the TCU community is dedicated to. A committee of faculty and students headed by Provost Nowell Donovan has been formed to supervise progress. These leaders hope to change the campus mindset when it comes to thinking green.

Sustainable practices include riding a bike to class instead of driving a car or recycling materials instead of throwing them away.

The campus has started to support a number of green initiatives. The Purple Bike Program is gaining popularity, and TCU has shifted to paperless billing and offers an interdisciplinary course about sustainability. The theme this semester is “Think Purple, Live Green” and will include workshops and seminars on how to lessen our environmental impact. All “greener” actions taken by TCU coupled with the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment prove sustainability is a priority.
