Dalton passed over in first round of NFL Draft

Four quarterbacks were drafted Thursday night.

Andy Dalton wasn’t one of them.

Instead, the former TCU quarterback will have to wait until Friday to hear his name called after being passed over in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Dalton, who went 42-7 as a four year starter for the Frogs, capped off his career with a Rose Bowl win and was projected by many to be one of the four best quarterbacks in the draft.

But when the first three quarterbacks were taken – Auburn’s Cam Newton, Washington’s Jake Locker, and Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert – it was Florida State’s Christian Ponder, not Dalton, who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 12th overall pick.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper said Thursday night Cincinnati is Dalton’s most likely destination because the Bengals are in need of a quarterback and have the third pick in the second round.

The draft will resume Friday at 5 p.m. and will run through the third round.
