Four Frogs to compete in USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

This weekend, Charles Silmon leads a contingent of four Horned Frogs that are hoping to extend TCU’s 2010-2011 athletic season for another month as they compete in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The championships, a pro-am event, will see Silmon compete for a spot on the Nike team.

If Silmon does well, the sophomore will have a chance to redeem a disappointing performance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. After winning the Mountain West Conference in the 100 and 200 this season, Silmon ran what he called his worst run of the year. However, Silmon said he looks to come back strong.

“My goal is to compete well and get a good time,” he said.

In addition to Silmon, three other Frogs will be in action this weekend. For seniors Mychal Dungey and Jessica Young, their sprints will mark the capstone of their TCU careers. Whitney Gibson, a junior, will compete in the long jump.

The meet will be televised live on the following stations: ESPN2 (10 p.m.-midnight Friday); Universal (2-3:30 p.m. Saturday); NBC (4-7 p.m. Saturday); Universal (2-3 p.m. Sunday); NBC (4-5 p.m. Sunday).
