Junior finance major Brent Folan rolled in enough votes from the TCU student body to be elected as the new SGA president.

The former SGA Student Body Treasurer hopes to boost school spirit when it comes to athletics, especially now that TCU has joined the Big 12 conference. Folan said he plans on continuing bus services for students to away football games and adding a pep rally before each game.

“It is an incredible day,” Folan said. “I’ve been hoping for this day since freshman year and I’m really looking forward to serving the student body as president.”

Now that Folan is officially in office, he has the opportunity to leave his own legacy at 

While continuing to implement things the university is great at, Folan said he wants to provide the future Horned Frogs more opportunities when they arrive to campus.

“It will be one great year and a year to remember,” Folan said.

Also joining SGA President is Treasurer David Belpedio, Vice President of External Affairs Graham McMillan and Vice President of Internal Operations Joshua Simpson. All three SGA candidates ran unopposed.

Sophomore political science major Graham McMillan previously served as AddRan Representative and Chaplain for two terms in house. He is also apart of the John V. Roach Honors College.

McMillan now has the opportunity to carry out his changes including a TCU campus site that informs students on current construction projects and future plans.

But, the new vice president of external relations said he would like to continue TCU’s successful work with the community and build upon that. McMillan wants to leave a legacy simply by being a positive leader on campus, one who considers the student body over his own wants and needs.

Junior entrepreneurial management and political science major Joshua Simpson said he stuck to his original campaign plans before he knew that he was running unopposed. He said he still had the responsibility to inform the student body about his qualifications and ideas.

Through this new position, Simpson said he plans on analyzing the strengths and weaknesses while revamping the internal processes so that SGA can serve the student body more efficiently and effectively.

“I will work with the new cabinet to inspire our organization toward a bold, new vision: an SGA that is more inclusive of students with various backgrounds, more responsive to student concerns and more connected to student organizations,” Simpson said.

Simpson believes he set himself up for success by building support for his ideas and acknowledging common shortcomings of SGA.

“I know that SGA can deliver real, meaningful results,” Simpson said. “I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”

SGA Treasurer David Belpedio also felt that responsibility to prove himself to the student body.

While the campaign did not prove to be the most competitive environment, the sophomore finance and entrepreneurial management major hopes that his fellow colleagues voted for him because they support his ideas and goal, not because he was an unopposed candidate.

“As a new member of SGA executive board I hope to offer some fresh ideas and suggestions to further improve the functions of SGA,” Belpedio said.
