TCU travels to Baylor

The TCU baseball team will likely be without senior right-fielder Brance Rivera when it travels to No. 25 Baylor today.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said Rivera is nursing a hip strain and he was not sure if he would play against the Bears.

Rivera was evaluated by team doctors after the Frogs’ 5-3 win over Ole Miss Sunday, Schlossnagle said.

The injury has not appeared to hamper the TCU’s lead-off hitter too much through two games.
Rivera started in the Frogs’ opener Friday night and went 2-for-4 at the plate Sunday, scoring two runs and making a potential home run-saving catch at the wall in the seventh inning.

Schlossnagle was not sure who would get the start against Baylor but said it would be either true freshman Brandon Finnegan or redshirt freshman Trey Teakell.

Finnegan, a Fort Worth native, made his college debut in relief Sunday but could not record an out. He faced two batters and gave up two hits before getting taken out.

Teakell made his debut Friday night, pitching a scoreless ninth inning and striking out one.
TCU will make the short drive down I-35 to Baylor for the 304th meeting between the two schools. The Frogs swept the Bears last year, beating them 2-0 in Waco Feb. 22 and 7-6 at Lupton Stadium on May 10. TCU beat Baylor 9-0 in the championship game of the NCAA Fort Worth Regional in 2010, advancing to the Super Regional round against Texas before making it to the College World Series.

Schlossnagle is 11-9 against Baylor since coming to TCU in 2004.
