Baseball team to begin Super Regional play tonight

The 40-20 TCU baseball team will face UCLA in a best-of-three series in the Super Regional on Friday at 8 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Field in Los Angeles.

The winner of the series will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The advance came after the Frogs defeated Ole Miss (7-4) Monday night in the NCAA College Station Regional Championship. The trip to Los Angeles will make for the third time in four years that TCU baseball has advanced to the Super Regional round.

UCLA’s team (45-14) advances to the Super Regional after defeating Creighton Sunday night (13-5) in Los Angeles. This will be the third Super Regional round for the Bruins in six seasons.

“They can really pitch and I think that’s going to be one of the biggest obstacles for our offense,” Kevin Cron, freshman infielder, said.

The team departed for Los Angeles today and intends on spending a portion of their day becoming familiar with their new surroundings.

“We’ll take time to practice at their field and get to know their field and dimensions,” Jantzen Witte, a red shirt junior said. “For me as an infielder, the day will be about taking ground balls in their dirt and getting used to their field the best that we can.”

In the Mountain West, TCU finished in first place (18-6) with New Mexico. UCLA finished first in the Pac-12 conference at (20-10).

“As an offense we just have to get some runs up on the board and protect them so they can have confidence on the mound,” Cron said.

The Frogs have competed with the Bruins before, having fallen to UCLA (6-3)  in Omaha in 2010 for their previous attempt at a National Championship.

“I’m just expecting our guys to get out there and have fun and play really hard, and play together, which we did a really good job of this past weekend,” Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle, said. “I’m just looking forward to being in the dugout with them again.”
