Men’s golf team faces ranked opponents at Isleworth Collegiate Invitational

Eli Cole and Daniel Jennevret said they knew the TCU men’s golf team would face some tough competition at the 2012 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.

After the first two days against some of the nation’s best, the team has learned that it has to constantly change its strategy, Cole and Jennevret said.

The tournament field includes eight teams in the top 25 nationally, and all but two in the 15-team field are ranked in the top 42 nationally after two rounds.

The Frogs are No. 10 in the standings after the first two rounds.

The TCU team, which came in ranked No. 40 nationally, has learned a lot in the first two days of playing against that level of competition, the players said.

“We have had some decent play, but not sharp enough overall,” Cole said. “However, we will put the full court press on tomorrow to see if we can make a charge up the leaderboard.”

TCU’s team is comprised of Cole, Jennevret, sophomore standout Julien Brun, redshirt freshman Michael Culin and true freshman Paul Barjon.

Cole and Jennevret, currently No. 46 and No. 22 in the individual player standings respectively, said match play is different because they are playing three rounds total against fourteen other teams.

“Isleworth is an extremely hard test, but we came here prepared, and we are excited to find out what we all need to work more on during off season,” Jennevret said.

The team tees off today from 8:25 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. in the tournament’s final day.
