TCU cornerback Jason Verrett, punter Ethan Perry and defensive end Devonte Fields earned All-America honors for their performances this season.

Verrett was named second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Fields and Perry earned freshman All-America honors from CBSSports.com. Fields was also named the National Defensive Freshman of the Year by Scout.com.

Verrett had a Big 12 leading six interceptions and 20 defended passes. He was the only player to rank in the top 10 nationally in both categories. His six interceptions were the most in school history since Jason
Goss had eight in 2002.

Fields earned the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors and was a unanimous selection by the conference coaches as Freshman Defensive Player of the Year.

The Arlington native ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in tackles for loss (17.5) and was second in sacks (9). He recorded 49 tackles, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble, had an interception and three pass breakups. Field’s nine sacks broke the freshman record set in 1997 by NFL all-pro Aaron Schobel.

Perry was No. 9 nationally with a 45.2 punt average and was first among freshmen. He ranked second for single-season punting at TCU behind Chris Becker’s record of 46.1 set in 1986.

Perry landed 16 punts inside the 20-yard line and had 19-of-56 punts go for more than 50 yards.

Only five schools in the nation had two freshmen on the CBSSports.com Freshman All-America team.

Fields also received first-team honors on Scout.com’s Freshman All-America squad while Perry was named to the second-team.
