Students from TCU were injured in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Monday afternoon when the deck of a beach house collapsed, according to Gulf Shores Police.

Sgt. Jason Woodruff of Gulf Shores police said five students were taken to the hospital by ambulance, and one was taken by private vehicle. The injuries sustained were minor and non life- threatening.

He said the police responded to a phone call Monday at 4:30 p.m. about a structural collapse at a beach house on West Beach Boulevard.

According to William Bonner, a first-year business major who was on the deck when it collapsed, about 20-25 people were on the deck.

"It was a very strange incident, he said. "I was just talking to one of my friends and next thing we were on the ground."

He said that the beach house was rented by TCU students, and several students from other universities were gathered on the deck.

The people that fell through had minor injuries such as sprained ankles, and only females were escorted to the hospital by the police, he said.

Bonner said the TCU students who rented the beach house are no longer staying there.

Woodruff said nothing further is being investigated by the police department, but the accident is under investigation by the fire department.

Grant Brown with the Gulf Shores Fire Department said the incident is currently being investigated by both the Gulf Shores Fire Marshall and Chief Building Official and no  “definitive conclusions” have been made.

Lisa Albert, Director of TCU Communications said the university is aware that TCU students may be involved and is currently investigating.

TCU 360 was unable to speak to Sherry Sanders Parks, the landlord of the Sea Stars Cottage. Her representative declined to comment.

Correction: TCU 360 previously quoted TCU student William Bonner from a NBC-DFW story. According to Bonner, the person quoted was another student.
