University students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to pick a service site in the Fort Worth community and serve them in the morning or in the afternoon on Saturday, April 6th for LEAPS.

Students will check in the Brown-Lupton University Union in the morning or the afternoon. They will receive a t-shirt and a name tag and will then be directed to a yard sign for the site they signed up for. Buses or a carpool will be provided for transportation, Melissa Gruver, Community Engagement Coordinator, said.

The community liaison, the group leader, will facilitate a time of reflection after serving so volunteers are able to learn from it and continue to serve in the local community, she said.

Pizza will be provided at noon for the morning and afternoon service groups, she said.

The community liaison will email the participants in their particular group a couple of days before Saturday to give them specific information about their site and what to wear or bring, Trilby Argubright, co-director of LEAPS, said.

“I think LEAPS is a great way for the members of the TCU community to become more connected with the community around us,” the senior English major said. “Hopefully students will continue to go back and serve at these agencies and kind of make a commitment to Tarrant County to serve.”

Gruver encouraged students to look up their agency ahead of time and learn more about the work that they do and the opportunities they have before they volunteer.

During the week of LEAPS, TheCrew’s events will focus on and benefit a different LEAPS site each day. They are going to make teddy bears, hygiene kits, welcome kits, and decorate journals, Gruver said.

This year, LEAPS included a group registration.

“Organizations had the opportunity to serve with each other,” Argubright said.

If a group is still interested in signing up, they should go through the calendar page and see which service site will best fit the entire members, Mackenzie Meyer, co-director of LEAPS said.
