The lights were on and the tarp was on the field when the game was supposed to begin.

But even after a rain delay that lasted just more than 30 minutes, TCU was able to earn their second straight win Wednesday night with a score of 10-0 against UT Pan American. The shutout is the third this season for the Frogs.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said getting the second win before another weekend series helped with the team’s confidence.

“You have two wins in the middle of the week, and all of a sudden everything’s better,” he said. “Your wife’s better looking. Your girlfriend’s cuter. Food tastes better, so it’s all good.”

Although having the second midweek game meant taking away what is usually a practice day, Schlossnagle said it messes with his team’s routine in a good way.

“Baseball’s a game to play, and once the season starts, practice – although it can be valuable at times – is a little bit overrated, especially when you’re playing well,” he said. “You want to get back out on the field and continue to play.”

Sophomore Kevin Cron recorded his first home run of the season in a full third inning. Every batter in the lineup got a chance at the plate during the inning, as the Frogs scored six runs.

Junior Paul Hendrix extended his hitting streak to eight games with three hits in the game. His four RBIs gave him his fourth straight game to drive in a run and his third straight with multiple RBIs.

Sophomore first baseman Derek Odell also had a multiple-RBI game. He has now hit safely in five straight games and has a team-leading six multiple-RBI games this season.

Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said he thinks his team can be better offensively than what it’s shown this season, and he said he knows he has talented offensive players.

“I feel much better about [the offense], but we have to prove it in [Big 12 Conference] play before we can say we’re back where we need to be,” Schlossnagle said.

The Horned Frog pitching staff held the Broncs to three hits, while striking out seven batters. No TCU pitcher faced more than four batters in an inning.

Junior right-hander Stefan Crichton (2-2) got the start and went for six innings, striking out five batters and allowing two hits. He walked two.

Junior lefty Trevor Seidenberger took over for the Frogs in the seventh inning and allowed one hit and struck out one in his inning. Senior righty Justin Scharf came on for the final two innings, giving up one walk and striking out one. He did not allow a hit.

Six UTPA pitchers took the mound, allowing eight hits and eight walks. They struck out 10 Frog batters.

Although Broncs starter Colby McCasland (0-1) got the loss, the Frogs’ big third inning came while reliever Matt Daniels pitching.

TCU’s defense did not allow the UTPA runners to advance past second base.

The win brings TCU to a 13-16 record for the season. The Horned Frogs’ homestand continues as the University of San Francisco Diamond Dons come to Lupton Stadium for a three-game weekend series.

Friday night’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
