Paschal rolls Texans, 13-1

The Paschal Panthers’ baseball team capitalizes on six Arlington Sam Houston High School errors to dominate the Texans for the second time in district play.

The Panthers got onto the board quick with two runs in the first. Colin Merritt would start off the inning with a one out bunt single down the third-base line. After a Hunter Nurdin walk, Miguel Carreon would allow Merritt to cross the plate with a double to left field. During the next at bat, Nurdin would cross the plate on a past ball.

The next inning the Panthers would tack on six more runs, making the score 9-0. Austin Cornish would hit a single to left field to art the inning, move to second on a fielder’s choice, and steal third base. He would score on a dropped ball by the Sam Houston centerfielder. Reid McDonald would speed around the bases to score on a Drake Camilleri single. Shortly after that, Camilleri and Merritt would score with bases loaded on an infield single hit by Ben Noel. Carreon and Noel would score on an error by the second baseman before Beau Campbell being tagged out at second to end the inning.

The Texans would hold the Panthers scoreless in the top of the third, and score their only run of the game in the bottom of the third. Houston Nunez, the Sam Houston pitcher, reached first on a walk. A pinch runner (did not get his name) would replace him on the base path. He moved to second when Paschal pitcher, Frankie Almendarez(cq), hit Eduardo Castillo with a pitch. The two base runners would steal second and third. The pinch runner crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice hit by the Texan designated hitter.

Paschal would score their final five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Campbell would knock in Carreon and Noel again before being tagged out trying to extend a double to a triple. Jeremy O’Neil reached first on an infield single and would score on a Camilleri double. McDonald, who reached on a single to left, and Camilleri would score on a single by Merritt.

The game was supposed to be played at Arlington Sam Houston but due to a soaked field, was moved to Paschal around 1 p.m. Thursday.

The Panther offense had twelve hits in the 13-1 win. Their three pitchers would give up no hits to the Texans’ offense.

This win marks the third district win for the Panthers is also the third win by run rule of the season. All three run rules have come in district play.

Paschal will play at home again Friday night at 7 against the Arlington Bowie Volunteers.
