Miss Greek TCU was crowned Thursday night after an evening of competition between seven women from different sororities.

Peyton Head, a first-year journalism major representing Delta Gamma, won the crown, sash, trophy and a $1,000 scholarship for being named Miss Greek TCU.

“I’m so excited to represent such a great chapter like Delta Gamma,” Head said. “My dad got to watch it so that was such a big deal for me.”

Head sang Martina McBride’s song “Anyway” for the talent competition and answered a question about the No Child Left Behind Act during the oral presentation segment.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., sponsored the second annual pageant, which benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation, local high school students and scholarships for the pageant, according to the program book.

Cameron Blake, a junior psychology major and co-chair of the pageant, said he assisted in helping the contestants prepare for the pageant.

“I was in charge of making sure their walks were right, getting down the dances together and also just making sure everybody was happy and getting along together throughout the pageant,” Blake said.

Blake said he also gave the contestants advice for the competition.

“I pretty much just told them to be sexy, be confident, be poised and elegant, and also be you at the same time because it is about them, and everybody is an individual,” Blake said.

Omega Psi Phi originally decided to hold the pageant to unite all of the Greek councils on campus to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation while also giving the audience an entertaining show, Blake said.

“This is our second year doing it, and we plan on doing it for many years to come,” Blake said.

Sarah Daniels, a first-year business major and contestant, said even though she had done pageants before, she still had butterflies before the competition.

“I’m nervous about swimsuit for sure,” Daniels said. “I’ve never done that before, so that’s a little different. And I’m always nervous for talent just because I want it to go well.”

Before the pageant, Head said she was nervous, but she trusted in her faith for help.

“I know exactly what the Lord wants to happen will happen,” Head said.

As Miss Greek TCU, Head said she has plans to use the title for good during her reign.

“I plan on giving back a lot more, “ Head said. “Now being a titleholder, I feel like it’s definitely a job, and I’m so excited to go out and show the class that I hope that I presented tonight.”
