TCU women’s golf seeded 7th for Big 12 Championships

The TCU women’s golf team earned the 7th seed for the Big 12 Championships this weekend in Rhodes, Iowa, and will tee off in the last group with the No.8 seed Kansas and No. 9 seed Kansas State.

The No. 1 seed Oklahoma, No. 2 Texas and No. 3 Oklahoma State will all play in the first group set to tee off at 8 a.m. Friday. Seeds were determined based on the most recent Golfweek rankings.

According to the rankings, five teams fall within the top 25—No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 16 Texas, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Texas Tech and No. 24 Baylor, with No. 26 Iowa State falling just short.

The teams consist of five players, but the lowest four scores per round from each team will be used.

The teams will compete over three days in a 54-hole format with play beginning Friday at Harvester Golf Club.

The No. 48 Horned Frogs are coming off an 11th place finish at the ASU/Ping Invitational and their season’s lowest final round finish of 880.

“This season is a process,” coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said, “We want to win, but we just have to take it one day at time.”

Sophomore Kortnie Maxoutopolis said mentality is a huge factor for the Frogs as the team has experienced ups and downs this season.

“Golf can be very frustrating, it’s always on you at times,” Maxoutopolis said.

TCU has finished 4th in two tournaments during the spring season—LSU Tiger Golf Classic and Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

The NCAA Regionals begin May 9 following the Big 12 Championships.
