The TCU men’s tennis team is advancing to the semifinals of the 2013 Big 12 Men’s Tennis Championship after a 4-2 victory over Texas Tech Friday.

The fourth-seeded Horned Frogs will face top seed Baylor Saturday at noon.

“We’ll be ready to play tomorrow,” head coach David Roditi said. “I like the fact that we had the opportunity to play a match today. It really helped us prepare for tomorrow.”

The match against Tech was not only TCU’s first appearance in the Big 12 Tournament, but the first time Roditi switched up TCU’s singles lineup all season.  

The Frog’s gained three points after switches in its Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles positions, one more than in its previous meeting with the Red Raiders back on April 19.

Roditi said he was proud of the way the team was able to win key points and close when it counted in tight three-set matches.

Horned Frog junior Rodolfo Bustamante was one of those players able to close when it counted. His three-set victory at No. 5 singles over Francisco Zambon was able to keep Texas Tech from forcing the double competition by clinching the team decision.

Switching Orlando Superlano and Arnau Dachs at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions also paid off for the Frogs. Superlano played at No. 2 and eased past Felipe Soraes in straight sets. After a losing start at the No. 3, Dachs posed a comeback over Raphael Pfister.

At No. 4 singles Facundo Lugones, the Big 12’s Co-Champion this season with a 4-1 record, had a three-set victory over Hugo Dojas. The win marked Lugones’ fourth straight victory  

The match win boosted TCU’s season record to 18-8. Roditi said he’s looking to add another victory to the Horned Frog’s record Saturday when they face Baylor, the nation’s 15th-ranked team.

The winner of Saturday’s match will play in the finals Sunday at 1 p.m.
