Senior Sanna Nuutinen carded an even-par 72 and is tied for sixth individually after the opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Sunday.
The No. 43 Horned Frogs are 14th after shooting a 308 in their first spring tournament.
Nuutinen closed the fall season with a school-record 64 at the Alamo Invitational. She is just four strokes off the pace set by Arkansas’ Emily Tubert, who shot a 4-under 68.
Nuutinen, from Helsinki, Finland, recorded two birdies and shot par on 14 holes.
Sophomore Maria Maymon birdied two of her opening three holes and her final hole en route to a season-best 74 for TCU. The Huixquilucan, Mexico native is tied for 18th individually.
Junior Kortnie Maxoutopoulis added a 79 for the Horned Frogs.
With an even-par 288, No. 8 Arkansas holds a seven-stroke lead over No. 7 Alabama. Nine of the 15 teams in this year’s Lady Puerto Rico Classic are ranked in the top 50, including six in the top 25.
Monday’s second round will have a 6 a.m. CST shotgun start.
