First conference win eludes Frogs after 1-1 tie in Oklahoma

The Frogs couldn’t escape a 1-1 tie with the Sooners in Oklahoma on Sunday after nearly 80 minutes of scoreless ball to end the match.

Sophomore Michelle Prokof erased a 1-0 deficit with a goal in the 31st minute, but that would be all TCU (7-5-3, 0-2-3 Big 12) could muster against an evenly-matched Oklahoma team.

RS senior Vittoria Arnold made five saves in the box to keep the Frogs in the game. Both teams took 14 shots apiece.

The Sooners scored on a header in the 29th minute, but Prokof and the Frogs quickly responded with a goal of their own. After a pass from sophomore Brittany Little, Prokof shot the ball from 23 yards out and found the top left corner of the net.

The remainder of the game was about sound defense from both teams. Freshman Allison Ganter had a scoring opportunity before the end of the first half, but her shot was off just a bit to the right of the goal.

The Frogs had chances in the second half but couldn’t find the lead. Junior Madeline Hamm took a shot in the 57th minute, but it hit the post. Prokof had two more opportunities in the half as well, but she couldn’t find the net either.

Both teams had their opportunities in the overtime periods, but the defense and goalies on both sides ultimately prevailed.

The Frogs will have to look for their first Big 12 win during their final home stand of the season. They will host Texas on Friday at 7 p.m. before Texas Tech pays a visit on Sunday at 1 p.m.
