The Showgirls coaching staff has a different look to it this football season.

Lindsay Westbrook, the TCU Showgirls coach, is on maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter on Oct. 6. While she’s away, two Showgirls alumnae are stepping in to direct the team.

“Brittany Barbeau and Ashley Iovine are directing the team while I am on maternity leave,” Westbrook said.

Barbeau and Iovine were both captains and members of the team for four years. Iovine is currently a law school student at the University of Oklahoma and Barbeau is a recent TCU graduate.

“As former Showgirls, we are both familiar with the program and understand the importance in maintaining a top-tier dance team to complement TCU’s successful athletics program,” Iovine said.

Since Barbeau and Iovine have stepped in to help, they have noticed how much the team has grown since they were members.

“This growth is unquestionably due to Lindsay’s commitment to the spirit program, so Brittany and I have some large boots to fill, pun intended,” Iovine said.

Kristy Charron, a sophomore business major and member of the team, said the current Showgirls miss Westbrook’s commitment to the team. However, they are still enjoying their new coaches for the season.

“I love the new coaches and how easy they are to talk to, especially since they are just out of college,” said Charron, a business major. “They can really relate to us and know what it is like to be in our shoes.”

While Barbeau and Iovine are coaching the Showgirls, Westbrook is able to enjoy spending time with her baby girl, Savanna Grace Westbrook. Savanna was 7.1 pounds and 20.5 inches in length when she was born.

The Showgirls hope Savanna will follow in her mom’s footsteps and join the Showgirls dance team one day, Charron said.
