TCU dropped out of the top four in the College Football Playoff Rankings tonight, with the selection committee ranking the Frogs at No. 5.

The fall is attributed to last week’s fifth-ranked team, Alabama, beating the No. 1 Mississippi State Bulldogs and overtaking TCU.

The top four is comprised of Alabama at No. 1, then Oregon, Florida State, and Mississippi State to round out the foursome.

Behind TCU is Ohio State at No. 6 and Baylor at No. 7. Ohio State overtook the Bears after a win over Minnesota and Baylor’s off week.

If the season ended today, TCU would be the first team to be excluded from the inaugural College Football Playoff.

TCU is also ranked fifth in the AP Poll.

Hope is not lost for TCU’s playoff chances. All of the top four teams face games against in-state rivals on November 29.

Alabama will take on No. 14 Auburn. Oregon plays at Oregon State, where the Beavers just beat No. 6 Arizona State. Florida State will host Florida. And Mississippi State will travel to take on No. 8 Ole Miss.

Baylor also has No. 12 Kansas State left on its schedule.

TCU running back Aaron Green may have said it best in a tweet Tuesday night.

TCU won’t have a game before the next round of CFB Rankings arrives on November 25, but the Frogs will take on Texas two days later in a Thanksgiving night game.
