The No. 5 Frogs overcame talk of an upset on Thursday night with a victory over the unranked Texas Longhorns.

“If you didn’t know anything about us, you would’ve thought we were the 5-7 team,” said quarterback Trevone Boykin regarding predictions of an upset.

Even TCU head coach Gary Patterson said he didn’t think the Frogs would win 48-10.

Boykin said beating Texas at home was specifically exciting.

“As a kid growing up in Texas, you might not say it but everyone wants to come here,” Boykin said.

Boykin completed 20 of 34 passes for 233 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Patterson said he will begin preparing for Iowa State on the bus back to Fort Worth Thursday night.

“One more. That’s all that matters,” Patterson said.

The Frogs shut out the Horns for the first quarter and a half. After giving up a field goal in the second quarter, the Horns wouldn’t score again until the fourth quarter.

Coming back from halftime, the Frogs were up 20-3, but neither team could find the end zone until the fourth quarter.

TCU safety Sam Carter intercepted Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes’ pass halfway through the third quarter, only to fumble and lose the ball on TCU’s 18-yard line.

He said this is the first time he has fumbled since playing quarterback in high school, and hopes it’s the last time.

Texas safety Dylan Haines returned the favor by intercepting Boykin’s pass in the Texas end zone, stopping the Frogs from putting the first points on the scoreboard in the second half.

Paul Dawson closed out the scoreless third quarter by picking off Tyrone Swoopes’ third interception of the night.

Boykin opened the final quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Josh Doctson to put the Frogs up 27-3.

Just as Longhorn fans began clearing the stadium, Armanti Foreman responded with a 73-yard run to score Texas’ first and final touchdown of the night.

Kevin White’s sack for an 11-yard loss brought the momentum back to TCU. Aaron Green followed with a 30-yard run shortly after getting the ball back.

Although the Frogs were forced to punt, Quandre Diggs fumbled the return, allowing linebacker Jonathan Anderson to bring the Frogs back to the Texas 19-yard line. Boykin ended the possession with a 10-yard run and flip into the end zone.

He said he does not plan on making these potentially dangerous flips a signature move.

“I really could’ve just walked in honestly,” Boykin said.

The Frogs refused to settle down, and delivered the Horns back-to-back sacks.

On their next possession, Aaron Green rushed for a 5-yard touchdown.

Within the minute, Josh Carraway picked off Swoopes’ pass for a 33-yard touchdown run for the final score of the night. The Frogs closed out the night with a 48-10 victory.

The Frogs will close out regular season play on Dec. 6 at home against Iowa State.
