Friday on the Green provides music and fun for all ages

Fort Worth South, Inc.’s, summer concert series Friday on the Green will feature seven concerts between May and October.
The local nonprofit organization’s picnic-style concerts are held at Magnolia Green Park, which is located between Magnolia Street and Rosedale Street.
“Friday on the Green, like all of our Near Southside events, was created as an opportunity to invite the Near Southside residential community to enjoy an evening of community, while showcasing the talent of local musicians and the offerings of our local businesses,” said Megan Henderson, the director of events and communication for Fort Worth South, Inc.
Friday on the Green features local musicians and performers, as well as food and drinks from eateries in Fort Worth’s Near Southside.
Henderson said the organization aims to feature performers with a connection to the Near Southside.
The May lineup will feature Kevin Aldridge & The Appraisers, The Quaker City Night Hawks and Vincent Neil Emerson.
Henderson said each concert attracts between 1,500 and 2,000 people. She said the opening and closing events draw about 3,000 attendees.
“The event, since our very first year, has become loved by the community,” Henderson said. “Each year the demands grows and the grass becomes a little more populated.”
The free concert series is open to people of all ages.
Fort Worth South, Inc. receives funding for the series from local sponsors and community partners. Major sponsors include Andrews Distributing Company, Fort Worth Weekly, Frank Kent Cadillac and Rahr & Sons Brewing Company.
By promoting the residential and commercial aspects of the Near Southside, Henderson said the annual event is part of the non-profit’s plan to encourage the revitalization of the neighborhood.
“We believe that Friday on the Green is one of the Near Southside’s shining moments and has quickly become an important asset for our neighborhood,” Henderson said. “Come out, set up a tent and enjoy the show.”
