Junior League of Fort Worth hosts annual holiday gift market

Christmas has come early to Cowtown.
From Oct. 15 to Oct. 17, residents can benefit the community by shopping at over 200 specialty merchants at the Junior League of Fort Worth’s (JLFW) ninth annual Christmas in Cowtown.
Since 1929, the Junior League of Fort Worth has been serving the community by supporting women and promoting volunteer work for multiple charities, according to the JLFW website.
“It’s a really fun way to help the Junior League and purchase some really awesome items here at Christmas in Cowtown,” JLFW volunteer Allison Schluckebier said. “You are making Fort Worth a better place by helping people that you wouldn’t necessarily be exposed to. It has been really great to make a difference in the community.”
The non-profit organization raises over $200,000 each year from the event to benefit local charities, according to JLFW PR/Marketing Chair Haley Robbins.
“The ladies at the Junior League work hard year round to make this event successful,”  Robbins said. “The growth of the fundraiser has allowed us to grant monetary awards to a variety of nonprofits in the Fort Worth community.”
JLFW 2015-2016 beneficiaries include:

  • ACH Child and Family Services
  • Catholic Charities
  • Easter Seals of North Texas
  • Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition
  • Fortress Youth Development Center
  • Rivertree Academy
  • SafeHaven of Tarrant County
  • Tarrant Area Food Bank
  • Texas Ballet Theater
  • YMCA

The beneficiaries can be supported through “Pick a Package”, which allows shoppers to pick a $25 box that contains $50 worth of vouchers to be used on the market’s vendors.
Shopper, Melinda Rubenkoenig, said her first stop was the “Pick a Package” table.
“My box contained three coupons and I have already used them,” Rubenkoenig said. “It’s a really good deal.”
This year’s market includes 13 different shopping categories, from apparel and handmade jewelry to home décor and gourmet food.

Merchant, Amy Barber, said she enjoys the business that the market brings to her jewelry and apparel boutique, Amy B’s.
“The people shopping are so friendly,” Barber said. “I love how the money that is spent to get in the door goes back to the community.”
The event is at Will Rogers Memorial Center. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $12. Discount tickets are available at local Tom Thumbs and Albertsons.
