Residents of Bluebonnet Place want to solve Bluebonnet Circle traffic issues

The Bluebonnet Place Neighborhood Association aims to make Bluebonnet Circle dynamic, familial and creative.
Their first objective is to make the circle safer and more accessible for visitors. Residents said the traffic surrounding the circle is currently unorganized, chaotic and dangerous.
“There are a lot of people that enjoy bringing their pets here to walk around and it’s just not really that safe to cross the street,” said Angie Watts, a resident of the Bluebonnet Circle area. “I think not only will it assist in the parking, but also the safety of getting over here.”
The association said their plan includes reducing traffic to one lane, adding pedestrian crosswalks, creating a bike lane and doubling the parking for the businesses around the circle.
“There is limited driving traffic and that driving traffic is having so much trouble navigating the circle, it has no chance to look around to see the retail, see the restaurants,” said Jay Coates, owner of Pegaso Mexican Diner and member of the association. “We probably suffer because of that.”
Residents and business owners have gathered signatures for a petition to gain a bond appropriated for the improvement plan.
The association said their plan includes reducing traffic to one lane, adding pedestrian crosswalks, creating a bike lane and doubling the parking for the businesses around the circle.
“The renovations are vital to, not just my business, but the entire community,” said Kim Slawson, owner of Mellow Mushroom. “This is about every business that is on the circle, every resident. This is about every TCU student that lives in these areas.”
After completing the traffic goals, the association said their next plan includes improvements for the appearance of the park itself.
“If and hopefully when these changes and renovations take place, we will have created a sense of place,” said Coates. “We will have created a place where a family can go and hang out and walk around, or a student can come and walk around, giving us more opportunity to create more business.”
But right now, the association said safety is the top priority.
The Bluebonnet Village Neighborhood Association plans to meet May 9 at Mellow Mushroom at 7:30 p.m. They encourage any resident of the neighborhood to attend.
