TCU volleyball ended the Fight in the Fort Saturday with two wins over Lehigh (20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-15) and Utah Valley State (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) to clinch second place in their last pre-season home tournament of the season.

“They responded really well having seen some adversity on Friday night and again first thing Saturday morning,” head coach Jill Kramer said. “That is what I am most proud of and they just went out there, played volleyball regardless of who was out there on the court.”

The Frogs had another slow start in the first set against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. The offense and defense both picked it up in the next three sets after Kramer made a line-up change.

“We gave that same lineup another look that first set of the day just to not change it up too much on them,” Kramer said. “It was really obvious that was not going to work, so we changed it up a little bit and we just asked the team to trust us.”

A new addition to the lineup included defensive specialist Kayla Scheevel who tallied 16 digs and tied with libero Dani Dennison for leader of the match in digs.

The Horned Frogs finished off the tournament in the evening with their fifth sweep of the season in their match against Utah Valley State Wolverines. Outside hitter Ashleigh Martin notched her first double-double of her career with 16 kills and 10 digs, and freshman middle blocker Allye Beth Deaton hit .667 with 14 kills and no errors.

“This last match against Utah Valley we played was the most consistent we have played offensively,” Kramer said. “This one was really consistent the entire match, and it was nice to end the weekend on a good note like that.”

Deaton and Anna Walsh were named to the all-tournament team for the Horned Frogs with both hitting above .300 for the weekend.

Kramer said the team will have a few days of rest before they prepare for their matches next weekend at the SMU Doubletree Classic in Dallas.
