“Blade Runner 2049” is a beautifully written and visually stunning movie that may be the best sequel ever made.

The sequel takes place 30 years after the first film and is now following Officer K (Ryan Gosling) as he plays the new blade runner. Officer K digs up something from the past that leads to chaos within the world. He eventually runs into the old blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). Soon Officer K starts to question whether he is a human or a replicant.

The music in this movie is perfect. It feels exactly like the universe of the first movie, with its dark and loud sounds that vibrate the theatre chair, making you feel like you are standing at the entrance to this world. Visually, this movie is stunning– it contrasts the dark and light colors beautifully and is true to the original. This movie works well using the black and gray and then mixing in the bright colors that gives it a beautiful appearance.

Ryan Gosling’s acting in the lead role was great. It starts off and you can feel he is a replicant, but when he starts questioning if he is a human, so does the audience. You can feel the struggle and pain he is going through as he tries to figure out who he really is.

Performances by Harrison Ford and Jared Leto were good. Rick Deckard did not feel forced into the sequel and played a pivotal part of the plot.

The movie seemed slow and when I thought I had everything figured out, the movie added in new details and destroyed everything I thought I knew. As a sequel, “Blade Runner 2049” surpassed the original in every way and may be the best sequel made so far.

Verdict:

“Blade Runner 2049” is an engaging movie with amazing music and fantastic visuals. This film raises many question on what it means to be human and does so in the most epic way possible. I would recommend this to those who loved the original and to those who didn’t. This may be one of the best films to come out in 2o17.
