Update: Chancellor Boschini sent an email Tuesday afternoon saying TCU Gives reached its goal of 2,000 gifts and received the additional $50,000.

TCU Gives Day gave members of the TCU community 24 hours to see how many “gifts” they can donate to the university. This year, TCU Gives Day brought in 1,869 gifts– passing last year’s total of 1,088 by 781 gifts.

The initiative was 131 gifts short of its goal of 2,000 though. If the goal was met in the time frame, alumni and challenge donors Mark and Linda Wassenich promised to donate $25,000. Men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon made the same pledge Thursday afternoon if the goal was reached.

Last year’s donations totaled $166,698 and helped to provide financial aid, networking opportunities and enhanced classroom technology for students, according to the TCU Gives website.

Gives Day is held in collaboration with Philanthropy week, which is meant to show students TCU’s philanthropic traditions. The day is promoted to be an opportunity for students, alumni and friends of TCU to support the university financially.

For the first time, this year every person who donated providing a Twitter handle received a personalized video from students thanking them for their donation.
