Providing thanks and support to local police is the purpose of TCU Backs the Blue Week.

TCU College Republicans are hosting Back the Blue Week March 26-28, which offers students, faculty, staff and the community to meet university and local police forces.

“We feel that these days people have become less supportive and appreciative of the service that law enforcement gives our community,” said Emily Collins, the College Republicans communications director. “Through our weeklong events, we hope to remind law enforcement groups, the very people who put their lives on the line to protect civilians, that they are appreciated by the communities they serve.”

Gear will be given out at the Founders Statue 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday. TCU officers will be at the Founders Statue 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with coffee and donuts. A BBQ fundraiser is 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitor Center with all proceeds going to Assist the Officer Fort Worth.

James Pendergast, sophomore finance major, says it’s a great idea to honor law enforcement.

“It’s important to support our police officers because they are the heroes of our communities and don’t often get the recognition they deserve, especially in today’s political climate,” Pendergast said.

The College Republicans believe the community can benefit from taking part in these events because it serves as an educational and supporting purpose.

“We want students and community members to get to know those who are protecting them and understand how important the work they do is to their community,” Collins said.
