No. 23 TCU baseball lost their fourth straight game after falling to No. 25 Dallas Baptist 3-2 Tuesday evening.

Back to back singles by Josh Watson and Michael Landestoy in the top of the fourth inning gave the Horned Frogs a 1-0 lead after Watson scored from third on a balk by DBU pitcher Jarod Bayless.

However, DBU would follow with a three-run fourth inning, securing a lead that they would never surrender.

Their run scoring began with a leadoff double off of starting pitcher Russell Smith, who was pulled from the game after just 3.1 innings pitched. Sophomore James Notary would prove no better as he surrendered three singles to the first three batters he faced, allowing the Patriots to take a 3-1 lead.

Relievers Caleb Sloan, Charles King, Augie Mihlbauer, and Cal Coughlin would combine to allow just two hits and zero earned runs in the game’s final four innings, highlighting the continued strength of TCU’s bullpen as their starters continue to struggle.

The Horned Frogs threatened the Patriots in the top of the seventh after A.J. Balta reached base on a leadoff walk. Balta would score from first off a Conner Shepherd double, bringing the deficit to just one run.

Shepherd’s double was followed by a Coby Boulware strikeout to end the inning and end the team’s momentum. They would have just one runner reach base in the final two innings, as they were unable to come back against the Patriots.

Watson and Shepherd each had two hits, combining for four of the teams seven hits. They were outhit 8-7 by the Patriots, falling to 2-6 on the season when outhit by the opponent.

The team also fell to 3-5 in one-run games this season and are in the midst of their longest losing streak since the 2012-13 season.

The Horned Frogs will look to rebound from their four-game skid when they return home to kick off their series against No. 19 Oklahoma Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
