No. 10 TCU downed No. 20 Texas (12-5, 0-1), 4-2, in the Big 12 Conference opener for both schools.

TCU (14-3, 1-0) has now won six straight against ranked opponents and it began with earning the doubles point.

The teams split the first two matches in doubles play, leaving it all to play for between TCU’s Alastair Gray and Trevor Johnson against Texas’ Adrian Ortiz and Christian Sigsgaard. Gray and Johnson escaped with a narrow victory, 7-6 (7-3) to give the Frogs the doubles point.

“The doubles point is always nice to have. It was a great performance by our lefties at No. 1 and a clutch win by Alastair and Trevor,” head coach David Roditi said.

The Frogs continued that momentum with No. 14 Alex Rybakov and Reese Stalder both picking up quick wins to singles play bring TCU’s lead to three.

Texas responded by winning the next singles matches to close the gap to 3-2, but No. 74 Guillermo Nuñez beat No. 80 Harrison Scott, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the Frogs’ eighth consecutive win.

“I am so proud and pleased we were able to beat a team like Texas,” Roditi said. “It is so hard to come out on the good side of these matches and that is why I’m taking the time to enjoy it and be proud of our players.”
