The TCU club rugby team is looking to improve this year after failing to reach their expectations last season.

The team is already starting off 2018 on the right foot, placing second in the Summer 7’s tournament, which was hosted at TCU.

“We realize as a team that we have a lot of room to grow but are excited for the journey and the new season,” said captain and president Logan Legg.

The team came away with wins against Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at Dallas but fell short against the University of North Texas.

They will look to continue their success when they play Baylor, Texas, Angelo State University and a couple of local men’s teams in the area later this year.

Led by Legg and new head coach Spencer Ozmun, the Horned Frogs will play four games in the fall, three on the road and one at home against Angelo State.

“We have a lot of young potential, and everyone on the team plays a vital role in the success of the program,” Legg said. The team practices twice a week and has about two games a month.

The roster is currently sitting at 25, but due to constant turnover, the team is always looking to add more faces to the team. Since they are a club team, they will be working with students’ schedules in order to allow them to play the games.

Junior team member Cole Hillis said that he started playing in seventh grade and instantly fell in love with the sport which led him to play at TCU.

“Rugby is the ultimate team sport, and therefore a strong sense of camaraderie naturally follows,” he said.

The team also comes into the season with new uniforms and a website in which they will be selling gear for students and fans to purchase.

The Frogs return to action Sept. 21 against Baylor.
