TCU women’s basketball used an explosive first half by center Jordan Moore to cruise to a 69-40 win over Southern, improving to 8-1 for just the third time in program history.

Moore scored 20 points on a perfect seven-for-seven shooting in the first half alone, giving the Horned Frogs a resounding 38-15 lead at the break.

The senior out of Round Rock, Texas, finished with a season-high 23 points on eight-of-nine shooting to lead all scorers, and she is now shooting an outstanding 84.7 percent in home games this season. Moore tacked on three blocks and a steal on the defensive side of the ball as well.

This defensive presence would prove crucial for TCU, as they held Southern to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field. The 18 turnovers forced by the Horned Frogs led to TCU 21 points.

The 15 points scored by the Jaguars in the first half were the fewest the Horned Frogs had allowed in a half this season.

Forward Adeola Akomolafe helped TCU put the game away in the third quarter, scoring all 12 of her points and grabbing seven of her season-high eight rebounds in the third period.

The blowout win extends the Horned Frogs’ win streak to five games.

Forward Yummy Morris finished with a career-high 12 points. Her career day was a big reason why TCU outscored Southern by 40, 44-4, in points in the paint.

The Horned Frogs remain at home when they to action Thursday, Dec. 20, to play Sam Houston State. Tipoff in Schollmaier Arena is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
