No. 24 TCU Soccer (5-1-0) bagged three goals in the first nine minutes to hold back the Ohio State Buckeyes (0-4-1) and secure a 3-2 victory and extend their win streak to five.
TCU’s first goal was a header from Messiah Bright off a Yazmeen Ryan corner kick. Just two minutes later, the second came from a Gracie Brian through ball to Grace Collins. Not long after, Brian got one for herself to put the Frogs up 3-0 early.
This was Brian’s team-leading fifth goal in the season.
The first-year has now scored in four of TCU’s six matches, including a pair against Sam Houston State. In every match that TCU has scored multiple goals, Brian has been on the scoresheet.
“It was a very good first half where we came out and really set the tone of how we wanted to do our business early on,” head coach Eric Bell said. “We were able to come away with three goals fast. I thought we, for the whole first half, were really good.”
The Buckeyes roared back in the second half, scoring in the 64th and 74th minute to bring it back to a one-goal match. The Frogs were able to hold on defensively, though, and did just enough to leave with the win.
“In the second half, I think we kind of hit the easy button and took our foot off the throttle,” Bell said. “We paid for it by giving up a couple of goals, then it becomes a nervous, tentative game. Hopefully, we learn some lessons through winning.”
The victory tonight is the first non-shutout win for the year. The contest was the first time TCU has both scored and given up goals in a match all season.
TCU will hit the road this Thursday for a matchup with the Houston Baptist Huskies. Game time in Houston is set for 7 p.m.
