TCU soccer (10-6-2) didn’t get too many treats on Halloween night, falling 2-1 to end the regular season.

The Frogs and Mountaineers played evenly in the first half, tying shots at five apiece.

TCU took the lead after a Messiah Bright goal in the 31st minute, her 10th of the year. Bright’s 10th goal makes her the first Horned Frog since Jordan Calhoun in 2008.

Yazmeen Ryan provided the assist, getting her eighth of the season and 16th of her career. That puts the junior at 4th all-time on TCU’s assist board.

“The first half went exactly how we wanted it to go,” head coach Eric Bell said. “We went into the half up a goal. We were in a good spot.”

The second half included much more action, with a 60th minute double-red carding of Addison Clark of West Virginia and Michelle Slater of TCU. The last Frog red carded happened in the loss to Arizona in September.

The floodgates then opened with back-to-back Mountaineer goals in the 77th and the 78th minutes. West Virginia’s rally was the first comeback win over the Frogs all season.

“In the second half, we struggled with wind, but I still thought we would win,” Bell said. “Unfortunately, we gave up two goals in the second half. The conditions were what they were. That’s soccer. You have to deal with different types of stuff.”

TCU has never beaten West Virginia, losing eight times and drawing twice. Three of those losses knocked the Frogs out of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament, where the Frogs travel next.

TCU plays Texas this Sunday in the Big 12 Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals in Kansas City. The winner plays the victor of Texas Tech/Baylor. The game, along with the rest of the matches in the tournament, will be streamed on ESPN+.
