A strong effort by two upperclassmen led the Horned Frogs to an 84-59 victory over the Incarnate Word Cardinals in their first game of the season Wednesday.

Senior Lauren Heard and junior Yummy Morris both had 20-point outings that helped bring the Frogs their first victory of the year.

A Preseason All-Big 12 selection, Heard dropped 22 points in her fourth-straight 20-point game dating back to last season. The senior went 12-for-17 from the field and added three rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Morris was even more impressive, scoring a career-high 26-points in her first career start for TCU. The Little Rock, Arkansas, native made 12 of her 17 shots and both of her free throws, using her size and length to grab six boards and two steals as well.

Though TCU trailed by two at the end of the first quarter, they were able to bounce back and head into the halftime locker room with a 38-35 lead.

The Cardinals tied the game at the beginnings of the second half before the Horned Frogs went on a 6-0 run to take a 46-40 lead with 6:52 left in the quarter. Heard scored seven of her 22 points in the third quarter, and the Horned Frogs were able to close out the quarter with a resounding 14-point advantage.

The Frogs continued to run up the score in the fourth quarter, preventing the Cardinals from ever making much of a comeback effort.

Eight different Horned Frogs scored points in the win for TCU, and their 84 points scored were the most scored by the purple and white in a season opener since 2016-2017.

Sophomore Tavy Diggs went 4-of-5 from the field and scored a career-high nine points.

Eight players also made their TCU debut in the game. Junior Caroline Germond led all newcomers with nine points, while graduate transfer Aahliyah Jackson added seven points of her own.

Up next, TCU will face-off against Central Arkansas at home this Saturday, Nov. 28. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
