TCU football hopes to remain undefeated as they host the University of Central Florida to open conference play. The UCF Knights also enter this matchup with a zero in the loss column.
Both teams are entering this week with 45-point blowouts on their belt.
TCU’s offensive coordinator, Kendal Briles, will see a familiar face, as he coached UCF’s quarterback, KJ Jefferson, for two seasons at the University of Arkansas.
TCU quarterback Josh Hoover says that UCF has a strong, fast and physical defense, and he is not afraid of getting hit.
“To be honest with you, I think I play better when I’m getting hit sometimes, which is kind of crazy to say, but it just kind of helps you relax and settle in.”
“We’re not afraid to hit anybody, definitely not afraid to not be physical in any situation, and along with just being the most disciplined team we can be out there,” defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah said.
Head coach Sonny Dykes described the Knights as a “very solid football team and dangerous in the returns.”
Dykes says that this will be a challenging game, but the team is ready for it.
He also says that UCF will create one-on-one opportunities, and the team must do a good job of getting their players on the ground. TCU will work on smart football, including protecting the ball offensively and tackling well in space.
Dykes said his team loves playing at home and is excited for the first Big 12 matchup this season.
Regarding team injuries, Dykes said defensive lineman Paul Oyewale practiced Tuesday morning and is optimistic that he will play throughout the week and on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs’ first Big 12 Conference game against UCF kicks off this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CDT in Amon G. Carter Stadium with a black-out theme. The game will be available to stream on FOX.
